Frequently Asked Questions
- Where does 4 ½ find its vacancy listings?
- 4 ½ works to ensure that the majority of Montréal vacancies are available to its clients. We utilize a variety of publicly available listings sources, subscriber listings and personal contacts with landlords to ensure that we have the widest pool of vacancies to draw from when searching for a match for your specific search criteria.
- How many apartments will I need to see before I find one I want to rent?
- It is difficult to estimate how many places you will need to visit before you find the apartment where you will want to live. A number of our Listings Assistance clients are able to make a decision from amongst their initial three listings. Others prefer to see a larger selection of available apartments.
- Does 4 ½ visit apartments with me?
- 4 ½ only visits apartments with clients who are under contract for Visits Assistance.
- Does 4 ½ guarantee me an apartment?
- Although we see the overwhelming majority of our clients’ searches through to a successful conclusion, 4 ½ cannot guarantee a placement. Using 4 ½’s services significantly improves your chances of finding a home that suits you; however, your success will also depend on how closely your expectations match your budget, on how much time you have to search prior to your move-in date, and on your credit rating and references.
- Will 4 ½ negotiate a lease with a landlord on my behalf?
- Although we are always available to answer questions regarding normal procedures for credit checks and leases, the client undertakes all lease negotiations and administration related to credit inquiries.
- I need an apartment in Montréal for a couple of months only. Can 4 ½ help me out?
- 4 ½ only provides assistance to those seeking long-term rentals. To find a short-term rental or a sublet, we suggest you start by contacting the off-campus housing offices of Montréal’s universities.
